This course introduces students to the fundamentals of mobile app development, focusing on front-end design/development and the design thinking process. Students will learn essential planning, coding, debugging, and user experience design skills. Using design thinking, they will identify a real-world problem or need and develop a functional mobile application to address it. The course culminates in a project that showcases their ability to design, build, and present a fully functional front-end app prototype.

What To Expect
Programming Using React Native
This course provides students with an introduction to mobile app development through React Native, a flexible framework that enables app deployment on iOS, Android, and web platforms. Students will acquire hands-on experience in creating cross-platform applications utilizing tools and techniques relevant to the industry.
Foundations of
UX and UI Design
App Development encompasses various concepts and technical skills, particularly the user's interaction with the app (UI) and the overall experience during these interactions (UX). Students will concentrate on designing apps with these two aspects at forefront.
Project-Based Learning
Throughout the course, students will apply the design thinking process to their apps—ideating, prototyping, testing, and refining. They will use CodeHS to write and test their code, and regularly iterate to improve their apps. Projects are designed to encourage exploration, creativity, and technical growth beyond basic requirements.
Capstone App Development
The course concludes with a team-based final project, where students collaboratively design and build an app that addresses a real-world problem. This open-ended project allows students to showcase their skills in development, design, and collaboration while solving meaningful challenges.
