This hands-on, team-based course introduces students to the world of robotics through the VEX Robotics platform. Students will design, build, and program robots to complete various challenges, gaining practical experience in engineering, coding, and problem-solving. Emphasizing collaboration and critical thinking, the course builds foundational skills in STEM and prepares students for further study or careers in robotics and engineering.

What To Expect

Structures and Stability

Understanding the internal and external forces acting on a structure is essential to building strong, reliable robots. In this course, students explore the principles of structural integrity, force distribution, and stability. Through hands-on activities and engineering challenges, they build a solid foundation in design and mechanics to support the successful construction of functional robotic systems.

Programming and Automation

The sophistication and creativity of robotics depend on its capacity to perceive the surrounding environment and deliver a precise response. Students discover how to build smart, automated robots by utilizing coding and sensors.

Mechanical Foundations

Students explore how mechanical systems bring robots to life by transferring power from motors to moving parts like wheels and mechanisms. Students learn how to use gears, axles, and structural components to create purposeful, controlled movement. By integrating these mechanical principles with coding and automation, students develop a deeper understanding of how to design efficient, functional robots.

Robtotics in the Real World

As a course capstone, students will be tasked with applying the knowledge and skills they've acquired to tackle a specific real-world challenge. They will work together and employ the engineering design process to develop an innovative robot.
