Project Problem

Modern day board games are not designed for people and children with visual disabilities. They often have a lot of visual complexity and aspects that make it difficult for children to participate independent of others help, leading to exclusion from play with non-disabled peers.

Project Solution Description

Space Dash is an adaptive board game that maintains the fun aspects of board games, while allowing all abilities to play. Space dash is adapted by having a simplistic, contrasting background, allowing children to see the board and allowing them to navigate, larger, contrasting, and simplistic cards with symbols and numbers to communicate how to advance through the game, magnetic game pieces allowing players to know where to place their piece easier, and a large game dice to help those with visual impairments engage in the game where other board games leave them behind. With this adaptations, it also maintains core gaming mechanics and fun for non-disabled students, allowing a more inclusive gaming experience.
